The 2010 Finnish Championships in Formula Ford are still a few months away, but it is a good time to speculate who will be driving this year...
If you look at KITI now, you find only three drivers - Ville Kivinen, Sebastian Nummi and Per Stenius. Vile and Sebastian are driving with brand new Van Diemen (Duratec) LA09s, and Per will be driving his RF02Z Zetec car. This is the usual - for some reason Finnish drivers always make a big "secret" of who will be driving (as if no one would know...;-). However, rumors are (ha!) that several other drivers will be present. No doubt Mäkeläs (Miikka and Milla) will be racing with their home made Mtec (ex-Comtec) cars. Antti Buri might be making an attempt at the Finnish Championships too, driving with a 2008 Mygale updated to 2010 spec here, although his main focus is of course the UK Championship. Elmeri Ylitalo is said to be racing at least a few races in Finland, and there is also talk about a young and promising female driver from the south west parts of Finland participating... Looking at the Formula Ford Finland website this is no other than Pinja-Mari Forsman, who seems to be running with Team Söderman. And, who knows if Swede Milton Lundström in his 2008 Van Diemen Duratec shows up in Finland too... All in all, quite a few Duratecs should be lined up, and hopefully several Zetecs as well!As for the UK Championships, Antti Buri for sure will be racing. Jesse Anttila is making a lot of noise too, statements are that he should be racing there as well. Oskari Kurki-Suonio hopefully gets a deal in place with the Ray team, given his good run at the Formula Ford Festival he could make a solid entry.
As for last year's champion, Janne Knuutinen, it seems his team has bought a brand new Formula Renault 2.0 2010 edition. Apparently they also have enrolled into the NEZ series. In any case, Janne is making what we hope is a successful transition into winged formulas.
Stay tuned, let's see how this all develops. As it stands, seems FFs will be heading for another very interesting season!
