AKK had organized three days of testing this week - Mon at Alastaro, Tue-Wed at Kemora. We missed the Mon session, but headed out Mon nite to Kemora (Veteli) to complete our roll-out on Tue. Going up weather was OK, fairly dry and even late at nite 6-7deg C.
Tue morning arrived moist and a bit foggy, but the track was dry. Our team spent the first hours setting up our pit and the car, and headed out to the track at about 12noon. Weather was dry and first laps went by just checking everything was working.
Second session brought in the first rain, so a switch to the wet Dunlop tyres was needed together with some minor changes in setup (camber, roll-bars). For our initial setup (on slicks) we had followed the Dunlop test report, lowering the rear with 10mm and setting cambers to about 3deg front, 1.5deg rear. For the wets we reduced cambers a bit, and softened the front roll-bar.
With the rain continuous, the day became a good day for wet testing. However, at about 2pm snow flakes started to fall down! Nothing wrong with that, but the visor started to freeze...;-) Temperatures dropped to about 4deg C, so I was a bit worried about traction. The Dunlop tyres worked well, regardless, so nothing to worry. All in all, a very interesting test session (the first one I have ever had going 180kph+ amidst snowflakes)!
At the track was 1 Formula Ford, and 3-4 Formula Renaults. Apparently the session at Alastaro had seen 2 FFs and 4 FRs. Well, Finnish spring is full of surprises, snow being one of them. However, I am very pleased with the Dunlop wets for FFs, they are fast and quite predictable, even in extreme conditions like these!
