To all teams and those involved with the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford
Championship of Great Britain in 2010.

Greetings and Happy Christmas!

This message goes especially to those teams who would like to plan their
next move over the Christmas break and get prepared for the coming
season.

TESTING

1.       It has been suggested to hold a general test at Guadix Circuit,
between Granada and Baza in Southern Spain, on a date between 24-29th
January 2010.

This would be a great opportunity to test the Dunlop slick tyres and try
out any prospective drivers.  The day is likely to be shared with the
Speed series.  There are a number of artics driving over from the UK,
and the suggestion is that teams share trucks in order to reduce
logistical costs.  Local accommodation is available from 31 Euros and
circuit details can be obtained from www.guadixcircuit.com.

If enough cars are taking part, then Dunlop would like to send out a
technician to assist with your results.  There will be a tyre fitting
vehicle already on site (not Dunlop).

The testing costs can be shared once it is known how many teams will
take part.  Costs are very reasonable.

Please contact either myself (I will pass details on) or Roger Parkes
( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ; mobile
07914 844 422) if you would like to know more details or add your name
to the list.  I am happy to liaise between teams for truck share if you
do not know who could help.  Currently we understand most of the main
teams plan to attend, but I need to know numbers please to pass onto
Dunlop.

2.       Oulton Park.  There is an exclusive test day to be shared with
F3 on Wednesday 10th March.  3 x 55 minute sessions are available.
There will be timing included through this day.  It is planned that this
could be the Championship launch for 2010, and can include preparation
of the cars and drivers with livery, along with photos for the season.

Please set this date aside and also let me know how many cars and
drivers are likely to attend.

3.       Additional exclusive test days are available with F3 in the
Winter and Spring.  These will include timing.  Please advise if you
would like to be involved and we will check the costs.  Please let me
know if you would be interested in Snetterton 24/25 February; Rockingham
1-2 March.

4.       We will all be at the Autosport Show on the BRSCC stand on
Thursday/Friday 14/15th January.  Registrations are open, and we can
accept them at the Show also.

Please contact me if there is anything else you wish to know -
especially if it is to do with the Autosport Show.   I shall log onto my
emails and phone periodically through the holiday season.

Please send me a reply to this email so I know you have received it and
wish to remain on the emailing distribution list.

Looking forward to taking Formula Ford into the next decade.

Kind regards

Penny Mattocks

FF Festival 2009 DVD

E-mail Print PDF
Just got my copy of the BRSCC Formula Ford Festival 2009 DVD. Great racing, good footage! The DVD covers both Kents, Zetecs and Duratecs. Finnish drivers fairly well visible, Oskari shows up quite a bit with his Ray and of course Sebastian battling Neil Tofts gets a lot of airtime. Gotta be there in 2010...;-)

FF FIA NEZ Cup 2010

E-mail Print PDF
The FIA NEZ (North European Zone) Commission seems to be focusing on two formula classes in 2010 - Formula Renaults and Formula Fords. In their latest meeting notes they conclude that the Formula Fords will be running a NEZ Cup title in 2010, with most likely three competitions counted. These would be placed in Finland, Sweden and Denmark. In 2009 the Danes pulled off a new format, Dansk Metal Formel Ford Festival, and as far as I can tell that was a great success - plenty of cars, lots of racing, very low participation fee, and good prizes (including cash...). Personally I hope that format continues also in 2010, and that this is supported by two good races in Finland and Sweden.

Buri roll-out in UK

E-mail Print PDF

Rumor has it that Antti Buri was in UK last week, rolling-out a Mygale that his team recently acquired. Tests were completed with Enigma Motorsport at temperatures around a cool 0...4 degC. Earlier GETEM Racing had tested the new Dunlop tyres at such low temperatures, but their results showed the new radials were about 6 sec slower than the old Avons in frigid conditions. Thus Antti ran his tests with the old Avons.

Given the GETEM results, it seems the radials use a fairly hard compound. This is of course great for durability, but means the FF cars will continue "slipping and sliding" in cold conditions (which is what we usually have here in Finland at season start). It will be interesting to see if the car then, in hot conditions, stays better on track. An improved tracking behaviour, more similar to winged formulas, would at least from my perspective be preferred... Not that I mind the slip-n-slide, but just to get the FFs closer to the more advanced formula classes in behavior (thus making FFs an increasingly attractive entry class).

Race Technology introduces FF Duratec logger solution

E-mail Print PDF

Race Technology has introduced a high quality GPS data logger for Formula Ford Duratec cars. The solution interfaces with the Liferacing ECU using the incar loom. The standard package includes DL1 datalogger and Dash2 display, with options for additional sensors such as steering angle and brake pressure (engine data is collected from ECU). Larger systems, using VIDEO4 videocam systems interfacing with the logger, or using a DL2 logger are also available, as are 20Hz ultra accurate GPS upgrades.

With the Race Technology solution the driver no longer needs a beacon by track side, and will have access to features such as predictive laptiming and user defined sectors. The convenience and accuracy of a GPS based system, combined with the advanced yet easy to use Race Technology Analysis software makes this package one of the most attractive in the market. The modular and open structure of the Race Technology system, as well as the very competitive price of the system are additional strong features.

For further details regarding this solution, please contact s2i Motorsport!
